Fracking won't lower energy bills, but it will make oil company CEOs and shareholders richer!
The ideological right have been exploiting the cost of living crisis to claim that "fracking" is the answer to rising energy bills. It's not and I don't think the public think so either.
Fracking will not lower energy prices for Brits. At best, it would merely temporarily help displace the loss of north sea energy. So no extra supply, no reduction in price for people, just most more profit for shareholders off the back of a ruined climate.
Yet the media seems to be full of right wing talking heads and oil industry lobbyists claiming that fracking will solve the cost of living crisis.
The assumption, that they are never really challenged about, is that a domestic fracking supply will mean cheaper oil for Brits. But why would it?
Is north sea oil cheaper for us because it's extracted from the sea around the UK? No. Is it likely that oil fracking company CEOs are going to forgo profit elsewhere just to sell cheaper energy to Brits’? Of course they won’t, and this is the near universal view.
The garbage talked about fracking needs calling out.
Breadline families in Bradford or Bolton aren't going to see their gas bills slashed by blowing up the earth under their feet.
The only people who will benefit from fracking are fat cat CEOs and shareholders in London and New York and their outriders in the Conservative Party and the UK media.
Ordinary folk are the last people who will benefit and they know it too.
Brits have never been more against fracking than they are today.
On the latter point, the government has been tracking public opinion about fracking for years. The most recent polling in May, showed dislike of fracking is at an ALL TIME HIGH. People don't want their countryside blown to pieces so a few company execs and shareholders can get more wealthy.
But don’t take my word for it, go and look at the 10 years of polling data that the government holds on it here.
It’s time the ideologues and profiteers were called out.
